Question:  What was the first country album to go platinum?

 

Answer:  "Wanted: The Outlaws" featuring Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Jessi Coulter, and Tompall Glaser was country music's first album to be certified platinum by the RIAA.

 

Platinum = sales of 1,000,000 copies.
RIAA = Recording Industry Association of America

AnswerCash’s original guitar player was Luther Perkins. Luther died in a house fire in 1971.

Answer“Always On My Mind” won Single Of The Year and Album Of The Year from both the Country Music Association and The Academy Of Country Music in 1982, plus being named CMA’s Song Of The Year.

Question Many ago, there was a group known as The Oklahoma Wranglers. Do you know whatever happened to them?

 

Answer The Oklahoma Wranglers were Guy, Skeeter, and Vic Willis, who later changed their performing name to The Willis Brothers. They joined The Grand Ole Opry in 1946 and have all passed away.

Question Back in the 60’s, there was a song on the radio about “misery loving company.” Do you know the name of the singer?

 

Answer “Misery Loves Company” was a number one for Porter Wagoner in 1962. It was on the charts for 29 weeks.

 
 

Question Do you know the name of the guy who called himself “Stringbean” and played the banjo on the Opry?

 

Answer “Stringbean” was actually David Akeman. He and his wife were murdered when they returned home from The Opry one Saturday night in 1973.

 

QuestionWhatever happened to Archie Campbell? Did he have any hit records?

 

Answer Archie placed eight songs on the country charts between 1960 and 1973. He died of heart failure in 1987.

 

Question Our local radio station played a Faron Young record the other day and they talked about some artists’ biggest number one records.  What does that mean? How can one number one be bigger than others?
Answer They were probably referring to how many weeks the record was in the number one spot and how many total weeks on the charts. In the case of Faron Young, that would have been his 1958 # one, “Alone With You,” which was in the number one slot for 13 weeks and on the charts for a total of 29 weeks.

Question Many years ago, there was a song on the radio by a guy about his “funny forgotten feelings.” Do you know he correct title and the name of the singer?

Answer “Funny, Familiar, Forgotten Feelings” was Don Gibson’s 28th chart song. It peaked at # 8 in 1966 and was on the charts for 17 weeks.
Question Do you know the name of the guy who had the record about “Willie The Weeper,” back in the 1960’s?
  Answer “Willie The Weeper” was Billy Walker’s 6th chart song. It peaked at # 5 in 1962.

Question There was a popular song back in the 50’s about “Soldier’s Joy.” Do you know the name of the singer?

 

Answer “Soldier’s Joy” was a # 15 hit for Hawkshaw Hawkins in 1959. It was his 7th chart single.

Question Do you know the name of the girl singer who was married to one of The Wilburn Brothers and whatever happened to her?
Answer Margie Bowes placed five songs on the country music charts between 1959 and 1964. She was married to Doyle Wilburn at one time. At last report, she lived in Brentwood, Tennessee and was involved in the medical field.

Question Whatever happened to the three Glaser Brothers?

Answer Tompall, Jim and Chuck Glaser split up in 1973, reunited in 1979, then split up again in 1982.

Question There used to be a guy who sang on the Grand Ole Opry named Roy Drusky. I haven’t heard anything about him in years. Did he have any hits and do you know what happened to him?

Answer Roy Drusky  placed 42 songs on the country charts between 1960 and 1977. Roy died in 2004.

Question My grandmother had an old 78 record of a song about “I’ll Forgive You But I Can’t Forget.” The label is worn off the record. Do you know the name of the singer?

Answer “I’ll Forgive You But I Can’t Forget” was Roy Acuff’s second chart song. It peaked at # 3 in 1944.
